The MGS5 EV arrived in 2025 as an exciting addition to the electric SUV lease market.
MG says it’s the grown up big brother to the more compact MG4 EV, with both of those vehicles sitting on the same ‘Modular Scalable Platform’ (MSP) platform, which is designed to be lightweight and efficient while offering impressive performance.
All models are well equipped as standard, coming fitted with 17-inch alloys, a 12.8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control.
The MGS5 EV isn’t to be confused with the former MG5 estate, which is now discontinued.
The MGS5 EV should be on your radar if you’re tempted by the multi award-winning MG4 EV but need increased levels of practicality.
The MGS5 EV enjoys a 453-litre boot (the MG4 makes do with 363 litres) while there’s room in the rear for three adults.
Two battery choices offer a range of between 211 and 298 miles between charges, depending on which one you opt for, which compares well with rivals like the BYD Atto 3 and Citroen e-C3 Aircross.
Rear-wheel drive, a 47:53 weight distribution and rear Five-Link suspension, also means the MGS5 EV is something of a driver’s car in terms of its handling.
The base SE model comes with 17-inch alloys, a 12.8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera. All models get a full suite of driver assistance and safety tech, including lane keep assist, active emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The SE Long Range gets the larger 64 kWh battery.
The Trophy Long Range model adds extras like larger 18-inch alloys, heated seats, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, and a smart electric tailgate.

Efficient and professional team
This is the third lease company I’ve used, but in terms of the ordering process, the communication, the documentation and the speed of delivery I would have to place Select first for customer service. I also secured a great price (for a Hyundai Tucson) as well as having the flexibility of not needing to pay a deposit, which made the deal very attractive. However, I’m fully aware that you can’t truly judge a car leasing company until the end of the contract when the car is being returned, as that is what genuinely separates one leasing company from another. On that basis, my rating is based on the relationship to date. The delivery of the car itself was one area where I have experienced a superior service from another lease company. The company in question would deliver their cars on a transporter so the cars were delivered to my house in immaculate condition with something like 20 miles on the clock. The car I received a few days ago was driven about 100 miles to my home, on a rainy day in December, so it was handed over to me dirty. A relatively minor point.
